At least eight people were wounded Sunday in a terror attack at a weekly rally in Boulder, Colorado calling for the release of the 58 hostages still held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza.

The attack came just a few hours before the start of the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which celebrates the giving of the Torah to the Jewish People.

The attacker, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, is an illegal alien, according to the US Department of Justice. Fox News reported he is allegedly an Egyptian national.

According to the FBI, Soliman “used a makeshift flame thrower and threw an incendiary device into the crowd” on the Pearl Street pedestrian mall at around 1:26 pm as demonstrators were walking in their regularly scheduled, weekly peaceful event calling for the release of the hostages.

The suspect was heard to yell “Free Palestine” during the attack, the FBI said, adding the attack is being investigated as a “targeted act of terrorism.”

Eight people with various injuries, including several with burns, were taken to hospitals in Denver. At least six of the victims were ages 67 to 88.

President Donald Trump condemned the attack in a post on social media. “Yesterday’s horrific attack in Boulder, Colorado, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED in the United States of America,” Trump wrote. “My heart goes out to the victims of this terrible tragedy and the Great People of Boulder, Colorado!” he added.

“Our prayers are with the victims and our Jewish community across the world. This vile anti-Semitic violence comes just weeks after the horrific murder of two young Jewish Americans in Washington DC,” US Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement. . We will never tolerate this kind of hatred. We refuse to accept a world in which Jewish Americans are targeted for who they are and what they believe,” Bondi said.

In addition to being charged with a federal hate crime, Soliman faces state charges of attempted murder in Colorado.

“Our strength as a society comes from our shared values, and our commitment to protecting one another. Any attempt to divide us through fear or harm has no place in Boulder, Colorado, or anywhere in our nation,” said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek.

“We stand in full solidarity with those targeted. And we will continue to ensure that justice is pursued swiftly, support is provided to victims and their communities, and preventative action is taken to protect everyone’s safety.”

Soliman is being held at the Boulder County jail north of Denver.
